Premier Digital platform scale 200kg PM406

Key Specifications

1. Readability (Accuracy)³

This is the most crucial specification for a jewelry scale.

• Best for Jewelry: Look for scales with a readability of 0.01 gram (g) or 10 milligrams (mg). This precision is suitable for weighing most gold, silver, and average-sized gemstones.

• Professional/Diamond Use: For weighing tiny diamonds or very high-value items, you might need a scale with 0.001 gram (mg) readability, often called a milligram scale.⁴

2. Capacity

This is the maximum weight the scale can handle.⁵

• Common Capacities: The most common pocket sizes are 200g, 500g, or 1000g (1kg).

  • A 500g / 0.01g scale is a great, versatile choice, offering high precision while still handling multiple rings or small batches of material.⁶

3. Multiple Weighing Units⁷

Professional scales must be able to switch between units used in the jewelry trade:⁸

• Gram (g): Standard unit.

• Carat (ct): Essential for gemstones ($text{1 carat} = 0.2text{ grams}$).

• Troy Ounce (ozt):⁹ Used for precious metals like gold and silver.¹⁰

• Pennyweight (dwt):¹¹ Used in the dental and jewelry industries.

4. Essential Functions

• Tare Function: Allows you to place a small tray or container on the scale and “zero out” its weight, so you only measure the weight of the items placed inside.¹²

• Calibration: High-precision scales require periodic calibration to maintain accuracy.¹³ Many models come with a small calibration weight (e.g., ¹⁴$50text{g}$ or ¹⁵$100text{g}$) and a simple calibration button.¹⁶

• Protective Cover: The scale usually includes a flip-top lid that protects the delicate weighing platform and sensors when carried in a pocket or bag.¹⁷
